April Fool’s Day is all about having fun, and at Ashton Walden Turf Services, we like to have fun on the lawn.
If you’ve been looking for lawn-friendly outdoor pranks to pull, you’re in the right place. Check out some of our favorite April Fool’s jokes that won’t hurt anyone’s feelings (or their fescue)!
April Fool’s Garden Party
For an April’s Fools prank that’s easy and quick to set up, round up some life-size cutouts of celebrities or characters (you can usually find them at party stores). Once your neighbors have gone to bed, place the cutouts around their house, visible from their windows. When your neighbors wake up the next day and peek outside, they’ll be greeted with a host of unexpected guests!

Fork the Lawn
This prank takes a little more time, but it can go by quickly if you’ve got some friends to help out! Pick up a huge box of plastic forks and cover your neighbor’s lawn by sticking a fork, tines-down, into the dirt. You’ll want to push the fork far enough into the soil that it won’t fall over, but not too deep, so you don’t leave gouges in the lawn.
Another option, similar to forking the lawn, is flocking the lawn. Find a flock of lawn flamingos and cover your neighbor’s lawn with them instead! To keep everyone in good spirits, it’s a good idea to make a point of picking up your own forks or flock when the prank is over.

Prank by Stencil
Sky writing is expensive, but flour isn’t! With just some flour, water, and a little bit of time, you can write your neighbor an April Fool’s message that won’t blow away. Whether you decide to cover their lawn in hearts, the logo of their rival football team, or just say “April Fool’s!”, you can customize this prank just for them.
- Choose your stencil and cut out the shape in poster board. Make sure it’s big, so they can’t miss it!
- Using a spray bottle, mist the grass you’ll be covering with water, to ensure the flour sticks.
- Put down your stencil and apply the flour. Using a regular flour sifter can help you get a nice, even coat.
